"The Army Commander will proceed on a goodwill visit and will call on the Chiefs of Sri Lankan armed forces and will meet the Defence Secretary there," officials said here today. During the visit, Lt Gen Singh will discuss issues related to mutual cooperation, defence engagements and ways to increase military cooperation with Sri Lanka, they said.
Besides visiting the Defence Headquarters, Lt Gen Singh will also visit the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) War Memorial in Colombo. IPKF war memorial was constructed in memory of the Indian and Sri Lankan soldiers who died fighting the LTTE militants during Operation Pawan in 1987. Indicating the increased bonhomie between the armies of two nations, Sri Lankan Army Chief Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya was invited as the chief guest during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of Indian Military Academy. Besides, Lt Gen Jayasuriya had also met Indian Army Chief General V K Singh here. Earlier, Gen Singh had visited the island nation in September 2011 to lay ground for a bilateral defence dialogue between India and Sri Lanka.
