UNP MP Range Bandara & family protest near parliament

UNP MP for Puttalam Palitha Range Bandara, accompanied by his wife and two children, staged a sit-down protest near Parliament.

The parliamentarian demonstrated against the arson attack on his home and political office in Madampe some weeks ago.

He said the attackers had destroyed belongings of his two children as well, and as a result their education has come to a standstill.

Mr. Range Bandara asked the president to mediate in the matter and mete out justice for him, failing which, he warned stronger action.

More than a month into the incident, police have yet to make any arrests over the incident, he said.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was present at the beginning of the Satyagraha.

He said the arson attack on the UNP MP was an indication that opposition politicians were denied their democratic right to engage in politics.

He said the government should do something for the parliamentarian who has become helpless after the loss of his property.
